Breathtaking Hiking Trails in Taipei

Though Taipei is known for its hustle-and-bustle, city aura, there is much more than meets the eye. Surrounding the area is a surplus of mountains that are well-worth visiting to get your health game on, and to see parts of Taipei that you may have missed otherwise!

1. Xiangshan (象山)

The shortest hike of them all, a quick 20 minutes will give you a full, panoramic view of Taipei city. From here you can see everything from the famous Taipei 101, to the little houses and tall buildings that surround it. The daytime and nighttime both provide stunning views, and definitely should not be missed!

2. Peaks of Pingxi (平溪)

Though Pingxi is more known for its floating lanterns, there are actually hiking trails that you can take in this area! The Pingxi District has several different peaks you can explore, none of which take that long, all of which have amazing sights to see! Immerse yourself in its vast beauty, and check out the different Buddhist statues while you’re at it!

3. Yangmingshan (陽明山)

Yangmingshan National Park is situated right between Taipei and New Taipei City. Here you can find eight different trails to go on depending on your intensity level. However, all provide amazing views of nature.

4. Maokong (貓空)

Why take the gondola when you can just walk up Maokong! Though the hike isn’t long, the trail goes through a lush forest where you can see an ample number of trees, bamboo, and rivers. The greenery, sights, and sounds definitely should not be missed, and you can reward yourself with green tea ice cream at the top!

5. Huangdidian (皇帝殿)

One of the more difficult hikes on this list, Huangdidian is an incredibly elevated climb that also requires some ladder and rope climbing. However getting up to the top is one of the most rewarding experiences, at it is packed with greenery, peaks, and even small farm houses.
